You know what's hard to do after you've impaled your finger on a sewing machine? SEW. Or knit. Or crochet. Or type for that matter. But I did manage to finish up this owl hat which was mostly done already. The pattern is by Inner Hooker, and I've made it a number of times and I love it. This time, the only thing I changed was to make the eyes slightly smaller. I tend to crochet loosely, so the eyes on some of my previous hats have been a little TOO big, but I think I over-adjusted here, because I used a smaller hook AND eliminated one round. I probably could have just used the smaller hook and it would have been fine, but I like the hat anyway.
Somebody needs to buy this kid some longer jeans. :)
You know what else is hard to do with a bum finger? RAKE. Anyone want to come take care of those leaves for me? ;)

Holy cow! That must be horrible! I have come close, but never quite done that. Hope it heals quickly! The hat is adorable!
ReplyDeleteOuch!
ReplyDeleteI managed to cause some damage to two fingers the other day by yanking hard on some silk threads (3 of them). It was just like really bad paper cuts but they really hurt!
I can only imagine impaling a finger (index?).....
It's not easy to craft with injured fingers, no.
Oh, I forgot, that kid is getting more and more handsome every day.....
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry...I stapled my thumb once, and it hurt so bad. Wishing you a quick recovery, and why not have those darling boys rake? :)
ReplyDeleteOh my god, ouch. Sending you healing vibes, and a tetanus shot :) Love the hat!
ReplyDeletebrakketa-frakketa-mother-brikka....
ReplyDeleteMy heart totally goes out to you! My finger is doing this little throbby thing in sympathy. Way to stick it out and finish the {adorable} hat.
You know what else is hard to do with a bum finger? *EVERYTHING*
There are those moments where you think, "I never knew that I used this finger to do that... or this..."
Ouch... Lovely hat, though! And I don't see any blood stains on it :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, ouch! I did this earlier in the year... I couldn't believe it either. I'm glad you are okay!
ReplyDeleteEek! You poor thing... Is there aNy way you can make this work to your advantage? I'm sure wine and chocolate must have healing properties, right? Love the hotheaded pants on you little guy, by the way. My boy's jeans look like that too! Time tO go shopping, I guess. :)
ReplyDeleteYouch! Did the thread go through? Did you swear up and down and teach your kids some new words??? Sounds brutal. Full sympathy coming form over here!
ReplyDeleteOwl eyes = perfect. Am learning to crochet (you knew I would!), so I may have to get on this one :)
such a bummer! the hat is adorable though! if you are in portland, i'll rake your leaves for you! my son looks to be about the same age as yours!
ReplyDeleteWow I don't know whether to be more sorry about your finger or more excited about the fact that you can crochet this freakin awesome hat!
ReplyDeleteOh Emily! I am cringing as I read this! Ouch! This is my biggest fear...this and taking something off with the rotary. I hope your finger feels better soon :)
ReplyDeleteYikes!!! Hope your finger is getting better. The hat (and your son, of course) is adorable!
ReplyDeleteI totally feel your pain! But be glad you only hit your nail once. When I sewed my finger I pulled my finger back so quickly i broke the needle and then my arm went forward again and the part of the needle that was still in the mashine also went trough the same nail. I thought I was going to faint when I sat there with two pieces of needle through my nail. Luckily I was sewing at my parents house so my mother could pull them out. Ouch!
ReplyDeleteI sewed through my finger once. Luckily only 1 hole and I missed the fingernail. My first try at free motion stitching. I am glad to hear that since you have healed up and back to bein' all awesome and stuff.
