I know this picture looks crooked, but it's windy. I promise.
I used Alexander Henry's Spotted Owls in smoke, and a Hope Valley print, both from Sew To Speak. The only major change I made to this pattern was to use a french seam on the side seams of the body of the dress. This isn't called for in the pattern, but that seam is the only one that isn't totally encased by the time you're done. I just gave myself an extra 1/4 inch when cutting to allow for the french seam - no big deal. Also, having all of the seams encased makes this a GREAT project for folks without sergers. The results are very clean and professional-looking on the inside of the garment.
This particular dress is a size 3T, but I've also made it in the smallest size (I think it's 6 months?), and when I made those, I did make the straps a bit narrower. Other than that, I followed all the pattern directions exactly.
Ignore my ugly buttonhole and LOOK AT THE CUTE OWL BUTTON!!!
Ignore my duster in the background - I left it there on purpose as evidence that I DO actually clean one in awhile. :)
She loved the dress, and we found that it was perfect over her turtleneck and leggings, and still left plenty of room for movement and playing.
This is part 1 of 2 of Mya's handmade holiday gift. I'll show you part 2, a hooded scarf, tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteAwesome! It looks so adorable on her too!!! Thanks for the pattern review, how are the rest of the patterns in this book?
ReplyDeleteShe is absolutely adorable! So is the dress! What other projects have you made (or want to make) from this book? I've thought about getting it a few times. BTW, I heart French seams. Especially since I don't have a serger.
ReplyDeleteThat turned out so cute. I love that One yard Wonders book-don't you?

ReplyDeleteQuestion: Are we supposed to be linking our weekly Christmas projects to your original post, or will you be creating a new linky post for eat week?
